On The Scene: NYC Import Papaya King + Hollywood

A New York staple lands on the corner of Wilcox + Hollywood; Importing frankfurters straight from the Bronx, Papaya King opened its doors last week to find a line growing outside its doors already… Do we smell some competition with Pink’s here? We tried these dogs this past Saturday evening – you just can’t miss the orange and yellow tongue-and-cheek billboard campaign and loads of balloons that make you stop in your tracks. The dogs and good vibes were excellent and while this was still only 10pm, the buzz – and enjoyment of their delicious tropical Papaya drinks – spilled outside on the street. Los Angeles luxury and restaurant guru, SBE, turned out to be the top pick for Papaya King’s expansion and while SBE founder Sam Nazarian plans to open more across the west, we’re sure (and happy) that it’ll be an automatic success. What a perfect time of year to give Los Angelenos some New York flavor -  open ’till 3am, grab a dog as soon as you can.
