All That Buzz: The Getty + 69 Images by Herb Ritts

Ooooh…we love BIG news: The Getty has just acquired 69 important images by the one and only, photographer Herb Ritts. The above photo of Richard Gere posing in San Bernardino in 1977 launched the photographers career, and it was only upward from then on. Nudes, celebrity portraits, and images made for high-fashion ad campaigns were all acquired, including a ton that have never been reproduced, exhibited, or seen outside of the Herb Ritts Foundation’s archive — never before seen Herb Ritts = Anticipation. The exhibit opens in April, 2012, so until then enjoy a few staple captures you’ll be up close and personal with when the flowers bloom next year…

Veiled Dress, El Mirage (1990), a photograph first used in Versace’s couture catalogue.

Stephanie, Cindy, Christy, Tatjana, Naomi, Hollywood (1989), an iconic image that has come to define the era of the Supermodel.

Greg Louganis, Hollywood (1985), a portrait of the American Olympic diver.

Wrapped Torso, Los Angeles (1988), which shows off a dress by Japanese designer Issey Mikaye.
