Carlo Van de Roer is the photographer behind the ghostly beautiful photos that make up The Portrait Machine Project. Captured with an aura camera…wait, an aura camera??! That’s right. It’s an offshoot of spirit photography, which uses “a modified Polaroid camera developed by an American scientist in an attempt to record what a psychic might see.” Subjects are directly linked to the camera by hand-plates that measure biofeedback, which is then translated as an aura of color.
