Interview: Luis Barajas, FLAUNT Magazine

All business – Luis Barajas

Before I ever met Luis Barajas in person, I had heard [legend] of him. The adjectives most frequently assigned him are: “Larger-than-life.” “A total trip.” “Bananas.” And still, I had no idea what to expect from the notorious founder of the über-hip, fashion/art/culture publication FLAUNT magazine. It wasn’t until spending some time with the dynamic & demanding Barajas at the Sundance Film Festival, at FLAUNT’s Art Issue Release Party and finally through a sit-down interview…that I realized just how to describe him. Luis Barajas is…well, larger-than-life…A total trip…Bananas. …what? [shrugs].

Terence Koh + FLAUNT’s Art Issue Release Party

The enigmatic artist Terence Koh

Last night, FLAUNT Magazine celebrated the release of its ‘Art Issue’ at the dark & shiny Mi-6 in West Hollywood.  The guest of honor was the weird and wonderful conceptual artist Terence Koh. It was quite the ‘scene’ last night; complete with all of LA’s pretty young things – but was it really the curious Koh? Hmmm…not too sure. Koh was in town for the GRAMMYS (he did the piano-sculpture for Lady Gaga and Elton John’s duet) but reportedly left for NYC after and hasn’t been back. Still, the prospect of Koh had me most excited about last night’s event. Have you checked out Maxwell Williams’ article in FLAUNT’S “Post-Medium Issue: Wars of Perception?” Here’s why you should… Read more

Well, we all know how it goes: “After the show, it’s the after-party. And after the party, it’s the hotel lobby.” Wise words I borrow (courtesy of R. Kelly & Jay-Z). And at Sundance, the most notorious after-party in Park City would be The Smashbox + Flaunt Magazine After Party (where admittedly…none of us made it back to the hotel lobby). Smashbox Yello! made it out both Saturday & Sunday nights (er, mornings?). And we took plenty of photos of our friends. Have a look… Read more
