Feast Your Eyes: Afghan Box Camera, “kamra-e-faoree”
We caught an international capture today. The kamra-e-faoree, or instant camera, is a living form of photography—and it’s on the brink of disappearing in Afghanistan. Nooooo! The Afghan Box Camera Project is meant to provide a record of the kamra-e-faoree and they just released this video of Qalam Nabi, one of the last two remaining box camera photographers in Kabul. Feast those eyes on how he demonstrates how to use his camera, and for the love of photography, like the project.

Photography: Notes From The BOX
Cleo, Where’s Antony?! In this week’s edition of Notes From The BOX, the lens runs wild. We had the honor to host the Fresh Look Portfolio Reviews during MOPLA 2012, and since our weekly submission pool for the inspiring images of the week is expanding, our reviewer zoomed in on a photographer who’s portfolio struck a good old fashioned cord—meet Ian Campbell. I chose his image of “Becca”—it reminds me of my momma back in the day. She used to rock a Cleopatra headpiece to parties, had more Elizabeth Taylor style swag than anyone in Chicago and stems from the eastern world. All in all, it’s an inspiring black and white portrait resembling a woman I love most. Ready for the rest? Read more

Videophiles: A Portrait Of America
The directions that come with this video told us to share it. So we watched it, and now we’re sharing it. Benjamin Jenks likes to travel, and it took 3 months to shoot this video and 2 years to create it. 5,000 miles, 930 people, 162 seconds. Why, you ask? Although some of our travel dreams may be Bali or Monaco, Benjamin’s was to hitchhike around the USA for a year. One whole year. The reason for this was to “meet people from all walks of life and learn about the world through a simple adventure.” This guy also has a way to help you travel better! We love the Tom Petty tunes, and of course, Benjamin’s zest for real-time life. Follow his tweets—we’re certain they take flight.
