Lovers. The weekend is now a reality. There have been so many things happening on our stages lately and with pre-production in full swing for FACE/OFF 2011, the anticipation (and hard work!) leading up to our opening night on December 8th is at peak. We are in the red, lovers. Portfolio: Ricky Middlesworth for Genlux Magazine
Perfect timing. Photographer Ricky Middlesworth won 1st prize for FACE/OFF 2010 with a powerful, thought-provoking image of a woman dressed in plum colored couture. He went on to capture countless images for advertising and fashion editorial outlets like magazines, movie posters, TV shows and billboards. We see him quite often here at The Box — he frequents sets and works hard, even if they’re not his production. Kudos, right? Right.
In a spread for Genlux Magazine‘s Holiday 2011 issue that focuses on fashion, art and jewelry, Middlesworth shoots “Still Life”, a six-page spread complete with props, gowns and lighting that may as well be a lavish movie set. Perhaps a vampire movie filled with art and gluttony, grapes, garlic, and a perfect, pensive stare between characters. FACE/OFF —— an annual photography and video competition showcasing the creative excellence of rising-star photographers and directors both near and far. It all unravels in the most highly-anticipated event @SMASHBOX Studios on December 8th, 2011 in West Hollywood.

Photophiles: Photos We Love
FACE/OFF will mark its 16th year for 2011! “LA River” was shot by photographer Garret Suhrie and won the FACE/OFF Photo Assistants Choice for 2010. This year, we’re cranking it up, lovers; The People’s Choice Award for FACE/OFF 2011 will allow event attendees to vote LIVE in an interactive set-up right here at Smashbox Studios, West Hollywood on December 8th. It’s going to be epic, stay tuned for our call for submissions announcement.

Sometimes, you get a wee-bit inspired about what you’re creating — In our case, a few things unraveled gracefully this week: The official planning of FACE-OFF has begun (yes!), our ScreenSpace photographer, Art Streiber, starts streaming on Monday (yep!), and Quixote Studios hit The Big Easy with a brand new Studio Store (Hola, NOLA!).
